#1 way to beat imposter syndrome when pivoting in your career at 40
Understand the business the value that you provide!
I’ve had numerous clients who have thought they wouldn’t get hired for their dream job because:
They didn’t have the years of specific experience
They didn’t have specific certifications
They haven’t worked with certain software tools
But these people still provide immense value and businesses need them as employees!
Focusing on what that tangible business value is, how to properly articulate it and what language will resonate with the hiring team is a sure fire way to feel the conviction needed to interview well and get hired.
If you’re not sure how to do this on your own, here’s some channels to help
–gather job descriptions and look for common themes
– read target company annual reports for their lingo and KPI’s
– connect with current employees for translation help on your qualifications
– work with a coach who has experience in your role or with your target industry
When in doubt, all business runs by either increasing revenue or reducing costs. So at the very least if you can articulate how your professional experience can align to one of those two metrics….you’re on the right track.
If you’re still unsure what else to do, tap into those people you know that have made a successful pivot– What other resources did they successfully use to translate their non-traditional professional experience into tangible business value?
You’ve got what it takes, the ball is in your court so go hit it out of the park!
